Data, the beastly little beagle that has now lived at our house for one
miserable year (for us), has been teaching me some of his hunting skills.
First, he has taught me to flush birds from the bushes.

There is a birdhouse next to our lovely hydrangeas. The birdies sometimes
like to rest in the hydrangeas between feeding trips to their house. Data
and I love to crash into the shrubs, causing the little birdies to take off
for the skies, complaining all the way. In spite of this, I think they have
raised at least two litters of little birds this year.

Data has also taught me to hunt the voles in the lawn. We can hear them
moving under the lawn, so we try to dig them up and eat them. We have
never been that successful in our hunt, but I have a nice dirty muzzle to
show for my efforts, and our lawn doesn't look that great in many spots.

So, in spite of my earlier opinion that Data should be strangled in the
middle of the night by a python, I now appreciate some of his hunter
qualities.

Yours truly,

Truman Colvin
