Dealing with back surgery means following the Vet or surgeon's instructions
absolutely. Do NOT allow the dog to move more than you are told. Do resist
the temptation to let him out of the crate or pen before you are told to.
Do NOT try things at home that you have heard about on the internet.
Listen to Droolers who have been through it. It is a big investment, both
time-wise and emotionally. The physical needs of the dogs after surgery are
enormous.
And never forget that there is a positive end to this, and that you will be
amply rewarded. Don't give up,and don't let it get you down. Best of luck.
You'll be fine.
