I learned from the Drool many years ago that pumpkin and yogurt in the food not only will help with sensitive digestive systems, but that pure pumpkin helps in the musky houndy smell, besides yogurt really helps their coats also. Pumpkin doesn't always take it completely away, but it does lessen the smell in my personal experience.  My personal experience is with the musky smelling male bassets. But on the Drool I seem to remember some people mentioning that females get the houndy smell also.  I just have never had a female that had the houndy odor.  Pumpkin the Diva would NEVER stoop to having anything smelly on her person.  If the shirts she wears start to smell after a couple of days she starts licking and I know it is time to put a new clean shirt on her.  The one odor she does have which I don't tell her is that special frito feet smell that is so very special in our hounds male or female.
