I have had several female bassets with bladder infections and some of them drink quite a bit of water when they have them.  This is helpful as increased hydration is helpful clearing the infection.  If you have more than one basset and there is evidence of "accidents," sometimes you can figure out what is going on if one dog is drinking more than usual.
