You may want to ask your vet about snake bite vaccines. Our hunting dogs get a rattlesnake vaccination every year because they hunt in eastern Oregon where there are lots of rattlesnakes. The vaccine will not prevent them from having a reaction if they are bitten, but it provides some resistance to the venom so that there is time to get the dog to a vet for treatment.
