[Dailydrool] Princess Juliet the Magnificent ATB

It has been YEARS since I’ve posted, but I’m still a faithful reader of the DD. We adopted Fulton from BROOD in March 2011 – he’s a big, smooshy, almost toothless goofball who we love, love, love. Love at first sight. He filled a huge void left when Quincey went to The Bridge and left behind the remaining member of The Three Snufflers, Princess Juliet the Magnificent the Most Beautiful Basset in the World.
Pw. Juliet left us for The Bridge early Saturday morning after 14-1/2 short years. She had been losing weight over the last few months and a mass was discovered on her pancreas. Her arthritic bones prevented her from snuffling in the yard which she loved, especially in Juliet’s Garden. She had frequent accidents in the house, but that was manageable – that’s what towels and a good pet odor/stain disinfectant/cleaner are for. Her eyes were clouded with cataracts, her hearing selective – she could still hear the cookie jar from anywhere in the house.
Friday night she tried to get up and let out a painful scream. Her left front leg had separated from the shoulder, just dangling (I will NEVER get that image out of my mind). We raced her to the ER vet, knowing full well what needed to be done. She went very peacefully, with both of us stroking her and telling her what a wonderful girl she is. The hurt is unimaginable as it always is when one of our babies leaves us. She joins her partners-in-crime ATB and I know they were there to greet her, ready to start the party.
Fulton is taking this very hard. He was nearby when Juliet got hurt. We raced out of the house with her and Fulton never had a chance to snuffle her good-bye. He’s grieving – moping around, not eating very much, no pep in his prance on our walks. We hold him tight and let him know how much we love him; he’s got Juliet’s favorite hot pink blanket in his bed, but it’s been rough.
After much consideration, we have come to the decision that the best way to help Fulton (and ourselves) is to adopt another rescue houndini needing a forever home. We looked at many pictures, read through their stories and have applied to adopt a beautiful female. Her name is Gracie, and although still a puppy, her eyes “spoke” to us. We are crossing paws that her adoption of us goes through.
The house is quiet, Juliet’s perch empty, as is our hearts. Hug your babies and if you have any spare drool, send some to Fulton to help him through this difficult time. Elder Clara – please help Juliet find her Snufflers and make sure there are lots of strawberry Twizzlers on the buffet – her favorite treat.
Hugs to all,
Holly and Fulton the Smooshy Boy, Rufus T. Bufus (ATB), Lady Chanel (ATB), Alexis Wigglebutt (ATB), PIT Quincey Magoo (ATB), and now Princess Juliet the Magnificent (ATB)
