[Dailydrool] Curie's 5th birthday gift

Our Curie turned 5 yesterday!  Never has acted her age either.  So we 
decided to get her a new play toy, but before I tell you what it is... I 
need to give you some back ground.

When we first adopted her at 7 months she can with her registration 
papers.  We had her spayed and within a week of being with us she was 
inseparable from our dane mix that was just 6 weeks older.  They played, 
they wrestled, they barked, they whined..... everything they did 
together until last March 31st when we had to make the terrible decision 
to put Tesla down.  Curie didn't take it well at all.  It was the first 
and last time I ever have heard her howl or bay.  That week was hell and 
she stopped eating.  Stopped with what house training she had.  It was 
just not a pretty sight.  So I drove her on a 6 hour round trip to bring 
home another rescue basset.  This one was older but Curie was happy 
again.  But....... she wasn't playing.  Last summer after we got moved 
and got settled we took in a younger lab but it was strained for all of 
us, Curie wasn't a fan of her in any way she tolerated her presence, and 
in February we found cancer in Maggie and let her go.

This was not good for any of us, I love big dogs, Curie loves big dogs, 
Kelvin and Gus love big dogs.  It didn't feel right without a big goofy 
black dog hanging around.

So we now have a 12 week old great dane puppy.  Curie has played with 
her non stop since she got here.  She is back to normal hyper herself.  
She has a new buddy to wrestle and chew on.  A new tag partner.  Her 
name is Lisi.

I think her birthday went well this year.
