Yesterday Doc brought a stick in the house to chew on. It is about 8" long
and an inch in diameter and apparently, pretty good chewing. He had been
working on it off and on all day,and was happily chewing away.
Enter Conley.
Conley looks at the puppy and the stick and lays down a few inches away. He
stares.
Puppy continues chewing and staring back.
Conley moves up a notch. Reaches out a paw. Stares.
Doc hesitates. Keeps chewing. His stare flickers.
Conley stands up and moves closer, now almost on top of Doc, never breaks
his stare. Doc gets up and leaves the stick which of course is instantly
Conley's.

Doc lays down a few inches away and watches.
Suddenly he gets up and begins prancing around the room. He does this goofy
balletic leap and turn and he is doing that.
Conley chews steadily away.
Doc taps Conley on the stern with his front feet. Conley ignores him. Chew
chew chew.

Doc picks up a twig (these are all in the house, mind you). A pathetic,
tiny, floppy, broken twig with two dead leaves.
He throws it and catches it, runs around the room shaking it, lays down and
chews on it. Conley watches but conintues to chew.
Finally, defeated, Doc comes over by my chair and sits down.
Conley grabs the twig. Like an arrow, Doc has the stick again. This time he
brings it right under my feet.

Conley is left standing a few feet away with this dismal twig hanging out
of his mouth.
Damnit. How did this happen?
