HHBR was contacted on August 21st by the all-breed rescue, Noah's Hope, in
Sioux City, IA. A senior Basset was in the shelter in desperate need of a
rescue commitment due to the fact she was not coping well in the shelter
environment. HHBR without a hitch stepped up to help this sweet girl out.
When HHBR posted her picture to our FB page in hopes of finding her a foster
home another Basset Rescuer in MO thought her picture looked familiar and
contacted us asking us if this could possibly be the same dog her rescue had
helped out of a shelter in IL back in Oct of 2011 & due to a microchip was
returned to her owners. After a little investigating we found it indeed was
the same sweet senior girl named Sissy and that sometime in between Nov.
2011 & August 2012 Sissy was returned to the rescue who originally placed
her here in Iowa and due to that rescue failing their annual state
inspection she, along with others, was relinquished to the local Animal
Control in Sioux City.

Sissy was pulled from the shelter the next say, 8/22/12 & taken into a temp.
foster home in Sioux City. Upon getting her to this foster home it was
noticed the old girl wasn't doing so hot. She was slow to walk due to
arthritis, she had urinary incontinence, her ears were so infected a Q-tip
could not be placed in them & they were incredibly painful to touch, her
mouth was painful to touch, she had tape worms present in her feces, her
nails were overgrown. She was immediately taken to the vet where she
received medication for a severe yeast infection for her ears, Proin & DES
for urinary incontinence, Drontal + for her tape worms, Previcox to help
with her arthritic pain/inflammation. This vet visit was to keep Sissy as
comfortable as possible in the week she would be in the temp. foster home
until she could be moved to the Director of HHBR's home & receive full
vetting by HHBR's local vet.

Sissy taught us that even despite being the great old age of 13 yrs. old she
still has a ton of spunk & life left in her! She tells the young whipper
snappers off any time they enter her bubble! She's loving with constant tail
wagging.
On 9/5/2012 Sissy was taken to HHBR's Vet Tri County Vet Clinic in Pella, IA
for complete vetting.

During this visit she was evaluated & received:
• Complete Blood Profile
• Urinalysis—is believed to have incontinence, medication was given for this
with no UA, but urine is strong in odor & dark yellow
• Rabies
• Bord
• HW Test
• Fecal
• Nail Trim
• Dental
• Wart/Bump/Mass Removal
• Assessment of possible Entropion of Top Right eye lid
• Right eye waters & goops consistently
• Arthritic Meds

The outcome of Sissy's visit was:
• She has ehrlichiosis & will be on Doxycycline for a months period.
• All other HW tests were negative.
• Her fecal was negative after deworming 2 weeks ago.
• Bloodwork was normal except for one kidney level was low so she will be on
IV fluid until tomorrow as this can be contributed to dehydration.
• She had 4 teeth removed-molars & pre-molars
• 10 warts & lumps removed, none look suspicious so no pathology will be
sent out.
• Entropion in her top right eyelid has been corrected
• Both eyes tear ducts were clogged & have been flushed, hopefully this will
help the excessive eye discharge of her right eye along with the entropion
fix.
• She has a yeast infection of her skin & mouth folds so she will be on
Anirobe for this for 10 days.
• She also has a severe UTI, so she will be on Cipro for this & we will
evaluate her urinary incontinence during the medication duration & if she
continues to have the incontinence we will resume the Proin. A repeat
urinalysis will be done in 10 days.
• Her arthritis will be controlled with Dasuquin & Previcox as needed for
pain control & comfort.
• She also has an upset stomach so she will be on the bland diet & Carafate
during her medication 10-14 day cycles to help prevent any ulcers or
continued upset stomach.
• Her ear infection is gone & under control.

HHBR is committed to caring for Sissy for the rest of her life. She
certainly does not deserve to have anything less than the best in her golden
years & we intend to offer her that.
But Sissy's vet Bills have taken a great toll on HHBR's funds =(

We are currently at a grand total of $697.91 for her vetting. And this is
not including any repeat work ups we will have to do in 10-14 days after
some of her medication is complete.
We are kindly asking for donations to help HHBR with Sissy's medical care.
