[Dailydrool] emergency at our house

Apparently the hounds noticed that Daddy was going to have some money left
over from his paycheck to make a payment to the plumber for digging up our
back yard (long story).  So they felt they had to fix that.

Yesterday morning the spouse came home from work (he works nights) and
found an empty, chewed up bag from rat poison chunks on the floor.
The bag was last seen about 3/4 full in a rubbermaid container in the top
cupboard over the stove.  How it came to be on the floor is beyond
me.  Perhaps another hound with helicopter ears?  Or they really
do levitate?  Or maybe we have REALLY big mice who pushed it
down?  Of course panic set in.  We called the vet who told us to
give them hydrogen peroxide to make them throw up (and boy did it
work.  Oprah produced 7 piles of bright green vomit.  Eeew.) and
call the pet poison hot line ($39.95, but worth it) who took some info and
then called our vet with instructions.  Our vet said "bring 'em
in", so we did ($416).  Bertha and Oprah were the only ones who
had access to the kitchen so we just took them.  Bertha had no
green  in her vomit so we figured she got little if any of the rat
poison - very likely since Oprah is very Alpha and does not believe in
sharing the wealth.

Anyway we get to the vet and we saw the new
lady vet.  She was very nice but seemed about 12 years old.  She
poured a big bottle of awful black stuff (activated charcoal) into Oprah
who didn't even object, and another bottle into Bertha just in case.
She then sent us home to watch for symptoms. So far none have developed
and it's been over 24 hours so I think we lucked out big time.  The
poison in that rat poison is NASTY.  Both girls seem to be their
normal selves.  Even eating.

Seems there should be a
lesson in all this, but I'm not sure what it is.  Keep you rat poison
LITERALLY under lock and key?j  Never be without hydrogen
peroxide?  I don't know.  I'm just glad the girls are ok.
