Bambi,

I just had a hound go through some heat stress this past weekend, he was only outside for maybe 20 minutes. Our Duke is 14 and he is now on strict inside, except for potty breaks.
He also had a seizure the morning he had the heat stress. Whether it is related, we can assume so, but not 100% certain. He had become unresponsive to us after he came in from outside, just sort of dropped and stayed that way for a good 45 minutes, (during which included a ride to the vet on a stretcher)
The sort of heat we have been having is just not good for dogs. I would think having him inside, if you can, might ward off a trip to the vet, if it will keep him cool.
Also, having had about 5 seizure hounds in our past, I also suspect, his pheno levels might need adjusting. Our last boy, Buddy Love was on a high dose of it, and while it kept the seizures away, he was more spacey.
I do not think a female in heat has anything to do with Drakes behavior.
I hope your vet might be able to work with you on a bill. I know ours has started to work with folks, times are tough, but Drake might really need to go in for a check.

> Hey guys. My little man drake has epilepsy. He is on pheno and doing well with it. Just took him Monday for his checkup and he was showing perfect levels. Since Wednesday he has been a little funny but now I'm worried. It's like he's a totally different dog. Won't play, won't eat, won't "talk" nothing. He is slow moving and doesn't care to be touched. It struck me today that there might be a neighbor dog in heat? I keep hoping its something minor. He threw up his dinner Friday night and hasn't eaten since then, not even chicken and rice. It was really hot here, 105+ for two days this week and he had to stay outside but he had water shelter shade and everything. I know it was yucky hot. But he's just not himself, not right. Not my little trouble maker at all. I can't afford to take him to the vet right now. I would be lucky to afford to use a pay phone right now. Is the possible neighborhood dog in heat theory completely off base? I've never had a female dog before.
