[Dailydrool] Toffee at the vet today

On Monday I noticed Toffee had some "swelling" on the right side of her face. She has needed a dental for a while now  but things keep happening like Cecilia's cyst surgery that have made it necessary to postpone having it done . I figured she must have an abscessed tooth. I had a call into my vet to discuss Cecilia who is still having problems. When the vet  called, I was checking out Toffee and asked her when I could get Toffee in for a dental . As I was talking to the vet , I looked inside Toffee's mouth to see if I could get a look at her gum line  and there was this huge black and brown ugly  thing on the inside of her check. I nearly fainted when I saw it. It was not there when I trimmed her nails about a week ago. After describing it to her , she told me it needed to be removed as it would just keep growing. OMG...poor Toffee! I took Toffee in this morning and she is "going under the knife" as I write this. My vet called to say that it was really well attached and that she would do her best to remove as much of it as possible but it would probably come back again. She said it is a melanoma. I've never had a dog with one in all the 40 plus years I've had bassets. To say I'm freaked out is an understatement. I f anyone of you has dealt with this kind of thing, please tell me what to expect and how it was treated. Please, please, please send drool for my girl. Toffee is 11 1/2 yrs. old a nd the sweetest most  lovable charming little mahogany and white girl you could ever meet.
