While it is true Cushings is not curable, it can be controllable with meds.  When our Rosie was put on the new med the change in her was wonderful she was the best she had been in years.  Of course you don't want to make Opie suffer but I would at least give the meds a try to see if they help. If they don't you will be able to make the right decision for him.
