Rebecca asks it this is the recipe:

16 ounces of Isopropyl Alcohol (60 %)
4 tbsp Boric Acid Powder
16 drops Gentian Violet Solution 1%
Mix together in alcohol bottle and shake well.

Houndservant consulted many links and settled on this one, which appears to
be pretty definitive and complete:

Above formula calls for 70% Isopropyl Alcohol.

This is the formula that Houndservant used (plus the article is very
informative).

This is the formula that has cleared up the pestiferous Pseudonomas
bacteria in TWO WEEKS. What prescription ear stuff from the vet could not
do in a YEAR, Blue Power did in 2 WEEKS (Houndservant also gave Adm. JED
his Cipro for good measure).

As many Droolers with Decades of Ear Duty have noted, Pseudonomas is no
joke. If Blue Power cleared it up in 2 weeks, Houndservant has a hard time
believing it would not be helpful on all ear gunk.

Houndservant also gives Adm. JED plain yogurt with active cultues (i.e., no
fruit yogurt, although Adm. would LOVE it); this tip for healthy ears given
by Golden Gate Basset Rescue Board Member JoAnn Beebe.

Houndservant believes Adm. will get Blue Power for the rest of his
(hopefully very long) life. It costs pennies. Heat it up a bit so as not to
shock the Hound Majestic's tender ear. (Adm. appreciates this bit of
thoughtfulness).

PS Boric Acid--found it at Rite-Aid in a 4-oz bottle; Gentian Violet--found
it at a Walgreens that had a section of home remedies. Both places found
via a google search on the ingredients themselves. Alcohol-available
everywhere. Total cost of 16 ounces--well under $5.00.

Knowledge is power!
