Please see the latest BARK magazine, or look at thebark.com. An article titled "The Gut:  The Key to Health" on page 59, subheading: " Some Compulsive Disorders Point to the Gut." tell of  an actual "Fly-BitingSyndrome" which nmay have a gastrointestinal origin!  Had I not just read it today, I would not have believed it!  Good luck...Chris Merriman

Hi, it's me Huggie Bear,

Well, apparently folks agreed that the calendar could use a representative for the OEBEs and naughty hounds because I made it in the calendar! Just think how amazing it is that a very naughty little red and white hound from humble beginnings raised more moolah than the Two Old Queens did last year!! Okay, it was only $21 more but I'm just sayin'-ha, ha-"Bite Me!". They like me, they REALLY LIKE ME!! First I would like to congratulate my fellow calendar hounds. A good looking group if I do say so myself. Everyone in the contest worked very hard to get major cookie money for the Bounders. I also need to thank Auntie Angelika for doing our web page again. I know it's a pain-sometimes literally- but just think, every time you help that old dinosaur of a slave I have to deal with put together a Woofle, another angel gets their wings or something like that. (Did she buy that? Elvis says she's pretty gullible.) We also need to thank my Aunties, Karen, Kathy and
 that Old Queen Pawtun
ia who are always so generous with items for our Woofles. Apparently it takes an entire pack to do a Woofle. We also need to thank everyone who voted for me and enabled me to achieve my lifelong dream of being featured in a wall calendar. I didn't know it was a lifelong dream until just recently but it doesn't matter. Anyway, all of you that voted for this little hound with a dream are winners regardless whether you won one of our gifts or not. So without further stalling or hemming and hawing around here are our winners:

Bassetude package        Sandy Gaston & Erica VanDerHeyden

Swarovski pin                    Joey Williams

Spa package                      Suanne Ackerman

iPod                                      Elizabeth Sewell

Music Box                          Ellie Foth

DD watch                            Kathryn Johnson

Congratulations!

I am just looking into joint supplements for Morse.  I can get the Joint Max Triple Strength from the US, but I
have just been told about Yumove too, has anyone used them?

Any idea which one is best?

aloha. It's October. I'm thinking about the Holiday Fair  for the little Basset rescues in November.

Here's how it can work. Each of us makes or dusts off a Basset object. then we do one of two things--list it on Houndsbay with a designated rescue to benefit (and send it ourselves to the bidder who wins.). Or designate the rescue to benefit as the one of the high bidder's choice).

Or, we send the item to one of the little rescues, and then that rescue lists the item on Houndsbay (or woofles it) and handles shipping. I am a computer moron, so I have already sent one item off to Pam Farris of Florida Basset Rescue, and one to Chris Bly of WMBRI.

A clue: Pam will have a dog bed (or baby crib) size all cotton washable quilt made like a scrabble board with some of the squares featuring Basset depictions from at least 5 different fabrics I've collected. Your hound will surely want it. It's very cute. Chris will have an Easter Basset bunny medley, that is sure to make you laugh, I still need to refurbish a terrific Basset birdhouse ( who'd like this one?) thank you! Doug Dropped for sending me some more Basset fabrics to work with. I may have time to do another dog bed quilt.

so put on your thinking caps. these will make terrific holiday presents for you're Basset loving friends. I'm going to suggest my relatives shop here (and hope I don't get back something I contributed in the first place, but even that would be fun)

these days I've been having a hard time posting to the drool because we are all so worried about the ailing and ATB loved ones. but this holiday fair idea cheers me up as I think of helping out some of our other loved ones too. Semper fido, Val, Bo (ha ha, I'm still keeping her up all night--she'll never triumph over me) and Harley (my play date with the new Basset in town is this afternoon. I am in love already).

A dog that sits and moves his head like he is snapping at flies may actually
be having a seizure.??

?

....and sometimes he just wants the flies.... Rusty loves to catch greenheads in mid air. The big ones. EWWWWWWWWWWWWW.....?? but it does cut down the flie population and is darn fun to watch. (...and I am NEVER gonna come between Rusty and his intended flyprey.)

?

dawn

....hoping he is back for next fly season.

Auntie Feyfey has grabbed my tail to say that Duke and Beamer arrived. Mr. Noah greated Duke and taught him where the deliveries come in for the beagles to skim, er, unload. They are having a good time sampling things that will be on the buffet very soon....or not....cause when Beamer was passing by, Feyfey grabbed him and showed him straight to the kitchen. Nathan cutebeagle found him a seat at the poker table. The kitchen beagles like playing for pots almost as much as licking the ones they use before the chiahuahua's?load them?into the dishwasher.....(the pots not the beagles....)
?
Anyhow.....Beamer stole a cookbook from Bona before he left and there should be some new chow at the buffet.

Vern insists that I try to communicate directly with Elwood and Jake, since
Debbie likely isn't reading emails. He would like the Brudders to know that
he, Vernon Q Basset, although normally a Very Good Dog, as undertaken
Extraordinary Measures to ensure production of High Quality Drool for their
person.

In the last few days, Vernon Q has personally:
- Made numerous climbs to the top of Mount Dining Room Table, with sadly
little to show for it;
- Taken a small bag of potatoes from the kitchen and chomped them at
various locations throughout the office, kitchen and dining room;
- Reached the metal butter dish on the counter (a triumph!) and consumed
all the butter in it (a loss -- just a couple of tablespoons);
- Reached the metal cream jug on the counter (a triumph!) and consumed all
the milk in it (a loss -- just a few licks);
- Chomped up a mostly-empty container of Almond Breeze;
and
- Taken a almost-empty container of Fry's cocoa powder from the kitchen
cupboard (!), chewed into it through its cardboard/foil side, and spread
unsweetened cocoa powder All Over The Dining Room. Oh, and all over the
trj-coloured basset, too.

Vern wants everyone to know that he was not harmed by the chocolate. Cocoa,
as it turns out, does not taste nice, but it does spread beautifully on
hardwood and fur, and makes one drool, which makes it spread less well but
it sticks nicely.

Vernon Q Basset hopes that Elwood and Jake appreciate the Extra Effort he
has made, and particularly appreciate his willingness to get in trouble
with his own person just to support Debbie.

The rest of us are praying and drooling and sending our very best thoughts
too, but none so creatively as Himself.

& Vernon Q Basset

Dear family,

After MANY years of dogs in our bed, we have been sleeping without them now
for 4 nights.

We knew that Harvey (*bassador) should not be jumping up on a high log bed.
We KNEW better!!

Harvey has gotten so heavy(63 lbs) that he can no longer make the leap.
Thank doG we did not injure his spine.

Instead of making him the outcast, we have gated the bedroom, and all 3 are
sleeping, at present in the adjoining family room.

The first night I slept with them on the floor with cushions.

Harvey is 3 ? and has always slept between hubby and I right on the pillows.

Tilly cannot jump, and has always slept on the floor beside my side of the
bed. She is 6 years (full red and white basset)

Phoebe, 4 yr old lab, has slept at the foot of the bed since 12 weeks of
age.

BIG change for all of us, but a necessary one.

I tell DH we WILL get through this.  One night at a time!

Last night was the best sleep for me until 3:30 am when I heard whimpering.
After some lovin ? and huggin? they all went back to sleep, me too, until
5:30 am our usual wakeup.

New routines in the morning now.

We WILL get through this!!

I miss them already!  Sue

Hi everyone, it's Gracie,
?
First off drool to all in need.? LuLu has been giving me lessons and I am drooling better.? It's still not thick enough or sticky enough or plentiful enough but I'm trying.
?
My mommy went someplace and isn't coming back till Friday so we are running amuck.? I'm not sure what a muck actually is but Snoopy says we are running one and he is always right, unless LuLu says he's wrong, but she didn't say that, so we are definately running amuck.
?
I was checking out all of the cool stuff on Golden Gate Basset Rescues online auction at this site:
?
https://www.biddingforgood.com/auction/AuctionHome.action?auctionId=199488056
?
and it's full of way cool stuff I'm telling you.? The light up basset topiary is ours, it really is, well it's one of ours, we have about 43 different ones, some lab and some bassets, some with plants growing out of them and some that light up, some baby ones and some great big ones.? This is a pretty big one , it's a baby basset that lights up and it's really cool and you should get it so why don't you go on over there and bid on it???? You should good look at the stuff cause there's lots of stuff on the site and while not all of it is basset crap exactly it's all pretty good crap and all of the money goes to Golden Gate Basset Rescue.? That is why I am alive you know.
?
I was not adoptable, that's what the shelter said, they said I wasn't a pet and I was livestock and nobody would want me for a pet because I was scared of people and didn't want to be touched and had messed up feet and a curved rib cage from sleeping in a kiddy pool for years (thats what nasty puppy mills keep their breeders in) and didn't want to walk on grass let alone go potty on it all kinds of stuff but Golden Gate Basset Rescue said "hogwash!!? We have a clueless momPerson that's pretty good with bassets that resemble a train wreck and we'll send her right over."? And then Golden Gate Basset Rescue proceeded for fork over money for vet bills ..... mommy took me to her vet who gave them a huge discount but it STILL cost hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of dollars but look at me now!!? Just look (check facebook) cause I'm really cute and my feet are normal (a year and 43 toe nail trimmings and 800 walks later) and my rib cage even (mostly)
straightened out and I am a PET!!!? Pet me.? Just go ahead and pet me cause I'm a pet and I want pets and if you don't I'm coming over there and nuzzling you and guilting you into petting me because I'm a pet you know.
?
Please go bid on the stuff.? It's neat stuff and all the money goes to pay vet bills for the next basset train wreck that shows up at the shelter or the next phone call where somebody is going into nursing home and has to surrender a basset who hasn't been vetted for a while and they need money for that.
?
Oh, and there's a huge party too, called howl at the moon, and you can sign up to go to that and party and howl at the moon with everybody.? You should come.
?
Love,
Gracie

Debbie is still in the hospital altho she is no longer in the ICU. Her
potassium levels are still way down. They offered to let her go home but
she declined: she feels safer where she is.
Earlier today she and Wayne went for a walk outside, taking her IV pole and
it's machinery along. Halfway across the parking lot, here came the guard,
waving his badge, asking where they were going with that stuff!!
Only Debbie could get stopped because she was armed with an IV pole...

this is Harley of Hawaii. My blind date was a fiasco. the pretty Basset new girl in town wouldn't play with me despite my most gracious play bows and soft woofs. I even brought her my favorite hedgehog toy, a great honor.  I offered her a biscuit. she just kept whining and going to the gate to leave.  I am dejected. was it something I woofed? do I smell bad? Sigh. Perhaps I'm more attractive to chihuahua types. I miss Ruby, who moved away. sigh.
