I'm so sorry to read this, I can't imagine the shock you must feel right now, expecting your furkid to be home after the surgery, to be given heartbreaking news.  I'm in tears for you, I hope you know we here are all so sorry this horrible "C" evil-ness happened.  Sending hugs from across the miles.  :-(
