[Dailydrool] Shelter Challenge

I too am having trouble voting this time around.  I use to be able to vote twice from home and once from work each day but this time I am having trouble voting from home.  Today I was finally able to  vote, so hopefully it will continue  but I don't know what I did.  Tomorrow I will take my time and see if I can figure it out.  I think this is a problem for many, right now we are barely ahead of the Airedales.

I still cannot access the shelter challenge from Internet Explorer I have to
use Firefox or it just does not work right I think this is why Basset
Buddies is falling behind in the Challenge ratings I think too many Droolers
are still having trouble voting this Challenge is more difficult than before
but it is being run by a new company so we are the ones who have to adjust
to their ways in order to get our shelter to win so please keep voting for
Basset Buddies from WI here is the link

It does not seem possible, but it is now seven years since I picked up the
three hounds sitting on the drainage ditch in the middle of nowhere. They
were less than a mile from the not so mighty Rio Grande, hence the term Rio
Trio. All three had problems. but settled in nicely. They are getting up in
years, Megan mommy is nine and the two kids, Bo and Abbie  are now eight.
Every time I look at them I go, How do you break up a family. I love the
kids and it is a good feeling to know that they are safe and have been for
years.
So happy gotcha day for the three kids, called the Rio Trio.
Terry and the herd. home to the Rio Trio

Anita:
Drool is headed to your Holly the Dolly from the Dashing Bassets, including our Holly Dolly. We hope that things go well for her for a long, long time, but we know how it is with seniors and with wild bassets and know that it's a good time to get in some socialization in your household.

Our Holly is not surprised that yours is nearly perfect, since she feels that all Hollys are perfect, her own flaws notwithstanding.

My theory with dogs is that I "allow" them two flaws. Our Holly also enjoys poop eating of all sorts. Her second flaw is that she will lie in the major house pathways where everyone walks and give Dexter, our blind boy, a hard time when he tries to walk by her. Since he has gotten his nose bitten several times, he is now very nervous when he gets near to her. I would happily retrain her on this, if I had a clue how to do it, but I can't really blame her for not wanting to be run into by a blind dog who sometimes seems to do it intentionally. Of course even if he avoids her, her theory is to do until him before he can do unto her.

Does Dexter have a flaw? He loves the world and wants to be petted by any human in it. So he will bark at people to get their attention. He also prefers to stay outside when the mama wants to bring everyone in. (Pretty minor flaws, I think.)

Horton is also nearly flawless. He does bark at any dog or human who walks by us, especially when we are near home. When I lift Dexter off our bed, he insists on standing just under him.

No basset is perfect. If your Holly has only one flaw, I think you can count her as being virtually flawless. You are blessed indeed!

We have some supplies that we would like to find homes for. The food in particular would be expensive to ship, so we would like to find someone who uses these products (rescues have first priority, then individuals) who either live in the centrql Iowa area or who will be at the Illinois Waddle and could take delivery of the items there.
1. We have most of a large bag of prescription food, Royal Canin Gastrointestinal Low Fat dry kibble. We poured it into a storage bin when we purchased it in early August, so we do not have the original packaging.
2. 17 doses of Denamarin (for liver support) for dogs 35 lb. and up.
Thanks,

Good afternoon all, and healing drool been sent to all in need.

This is Jasmin chiming in, since upgrading to windows 8 earlier on this year
the slave Johnathan has been inundated with computer problems ,he even had
posts bouncing because of limited space after having unlimited space with
earlier window programmes. He is still quite annoyed that some of his things
on earlier window programmes like his scrabble and bridge games will not
down load onto windows 8 because they are outdated. Now that all the space
is back and he has retrieved almost all his mails and has got up to date
with our drools, we are much happier ,nothing worse than a grumpy slave.
Last week on Thursday night my brother Joshua gave the slave Johnathan a
black eye, they both tried to get into Jonathan's armchair at the same time
and Joshua crashed into Johnathan's face as he hurriedly tried to sit down.
On the Friday night I got into the armchair first , I was all curled up
snoring away with Johnathan sitting on the floor with his back leaning
against the chair, he reached across the table to pick up his glass of Pepsi
and my brother thinking it was food jumped on to the slave with the entire
glass of Pepsi spilling over me and the chair. I was really not amused and
Joshua was laughing at me while the slave cleaned up the chair and covering
and then started cleaning me as I could not go to bed all sticky with Pepsi.
Then on the Saturday night they were invited to dinner with a set menu at a
restraunt about 110 kilometres from our house and had to be there for
pre-dinner drinks and snacks by 07.00 for 07.30, the slaves fed us early and
told us they should be back about 22.30, much to our and the slaves horror
the last course was only served at 23.45. When the slaves arrived at home it
was almost time for us to get up for breakfast .We are sending get well and
stay well drool to Emily's brother and houndies Bo, JP ,Rosie, Suzy, Nigel
,Pumpkin ,Bourdeaux and the puppy at San Diego Rescue. We are sending caring
slurps and kisses to Einstein who is missing his brother Hershey  greatly.
Bourdeaux , we are sending you make the most of it drool for the short time
you have left with us. We are sending heart healing drool to the family
,friends and furfriends  of Joanne Grimes and Dawn Jackson as well as to the
slaves and furfriends of Drummer, Hershey, Archie ,Kelvin and Pwincess  Zoey
, who have all left for the Bridge and we will also ask the slaves to give
us an extra treat and light candles in their memories.

Jasmin and Joshua looking forward to having the puppy school at our house
for the next two weeks as the slave William will be away both weekends in a
town called Nigel and the slave Johnathan does not drive.

Lillly , Justin and Jade just looking in with great interest.

Slaves William and johnathan wishing all in Drool Land a good weekend.

Sister Holly does have a second flaw - she hates to eat and is picky, picky,
picky.  No matter what wonderful food you whip up for her, she sits and
looks at it for a while (while everyone else is gobbling their food down)
and then she stares at me, and you can literally hear her saying "do you
really think I'm going to eat this garbage????"  Very frustrating because I
cook for the dogs and trust me, they eat better than I do.  And of course,
as she ages it's getting worse so it's harder and harder to sneak medicine
down her, too.  Like you said though, there's no way to train this out, it
is who she is.  I've known people who don't like to eat (and I do not get
it!!!)

We want to thank everyone for the kind notes sent to us following our sweet Pw. Zoey's departure for the Bridge last week. We have tried to respond to each person who wrote to us directly or on the DD and apologize if we missed anyone. We appreciate the condolences, the remembrances of our funny girl and the sharing of personal stories. Our house is much too quiet and we miss Zoey in so many ways. Thanks again for your thoughtfulness and moral support.  Droolers are an amazing community!

Evil Annie always sniffs the perimeter of the yard and she goes under the
pine trees to check out the wood pile,  so she now has pine sap on her hind
foot between her toes ( any suggestions how to get this crap off ? )    any
ways I tried to wash her foot as she is chewing it big time and has it
irritated, so I also sprayed it with a spray that Dr. Melanie gave me for
Maggie's allergies,  well,  she wont leave it alone so I put one of  Maggies
baby socks on her.  OMG  you would think I amputated her foot,  she wont move
lays on her side with her foot up in the AIR  like you  would,  if you had
your leg in traction,  so Maggie gets up  on the bed and sniffs it and Annie
lifts her head as if to say " is it still  there ?  please sissy, make it
go away "  Bill came home from work,  and once again Annie, did not move, she
just laid  there with that  pathetic look on her face with her  leg up in
the air,
Maggie wears socks all the time with out a problem, Annie thought it was
torture.

Adm. reads Drool religiously as he is an under-the-covers officer in
Basset Intelligence Group; relies on Drool for his most actionable
intelligence.

Adm., reading sage advice from Drooler Sandi, asked Houndservant when
he would have enough field experience to have McDonald's everyday in

Houndservant pretended not to hear.

Marlene, I can so identify with Annie's response to the "sock"!  I wrote to the Daily Drool a couple weeks ago for advice on our  Dora losing her toe nails. She had injured one and been on a round of antibiotics but then started losing the others without cause. She had developed an infection in all her toes somehow. After a week of antibiotics they sedated her, removed all her remaining nails and packed her paws and wrapped them.  She had more antibiotics and pain med and was to return to the vet to have the dressings removed in 4 days.
She milked it for all it was worth; she couldn't (wouldn't) stand up and didn't stand up once in 4 days!  She weighs 67 lb and is a long dog. DH and DD placed her on a "sling" and lifted her into the wagon and pulled her outside and lifted  her out.  She did her business by just barely lifting her butt then they lifted her back, after replacing the sling, info the wagon, pulled her back in and lifted her to her bed. They did this 4-5 times a day. We carried food and water to her and repositioned her. Whenever she wanted something she would whine , look pitiful and lift up her front paws to show why she couldn't move. She got us up in the night to rub her tummy; she was not in pain, just soiled!
All the humans where glad when it was time to go back to the vet.  They rolled her in in her wagon and the vet asked why they didn't let her walk.  They informed him she couldn't walk and hadn't walked and Dora showed him her poor paws.  He just shook his head and rolled his eyes and they knew we'd been had!  The vet had the tech take a picture of Dora in her wagon. The next morning she woke me with her usual woof that she needed to go out but she was still on the couch.  I said come on Dora but she put on her pitiful look and held up her front paws(now without dressings);  she wanted her wagon.  She has to continue on the antibiotics for several months but her her nail are growing out and she getting around fine although she misses the wagon! DH's and DD's backs have just about returned to normal.

Somehow I missed the great nail debate. I do know this: when Mr.Cooper
accidentally had his nails shorn wayyyyy toooooo short, it was terribly
painful.
I have also had toenails removed and it was PAINFUL.

So it is possible that the dogs are not being drama queens but having put
their paws down and discovered how badly it hurt in the beginning, are
wisely skeptical of your reassurances that now everything is fine.
Bassets are nothing if not skeptical dogs.
You can see it in their faces when you open the car door at the Vets and
say "No shots, I promise" and you get that LOOK...uh hunh, right.
Or
"We're getting a Puppy/kitten/baby and you're going to love it!"
and you get the Oh Right look.
Or
Look! Mommy bought you new food! It's much better!

Oh well...food...yeah maybe....

Although I've thanked everyone who responded about the old dog who
drives us nuts with not-eating spells, wish to thank the DD list in
general. I hope everyone appreciates the List as much as I do. Sometimes
I think contributions are on the wane, and that is both sad and
frightening. To me, the DD is like a totally understanding Best Friend.
Better than any real, in-the-flesh ones, that's for sure. There's always
someone out there, sometimes many, who so totally understand and so many
who have "been-there, done-that," and have ideas, hints, workable
solutions to just about any problem that may arise.

I am not a frequent poster myself, true -- but I never fail to read all
posts as they are posted. Since I save them to glean useful ones for
future Bugler publications, I do get behind and mostly ask for
post-permission to reprint 4 to 6 months (sometimes more) after initial
writing -- but they are always read initially. Aside from the usual help
offered with problems, am always touched by the outpouring of sympathy
over someone's loss. Truly, DD people understand in a way that, usually,
one's own friends or relatives do not -- how horrible each loss is and
how deep the loneliness is when one's dog dies -- even if one still has
other dogs. The saying, "Each man's death diminishes us all" holds true
when a beloved dog dies, too. Support from the Drool does help. It
doesn't cure, of course, but it does help. Perhaps others feel the same
way, but I actually feel closer to many on the list, whom I've never met
and never will, than to anyone I know -- except possibly the DH, DW or
DP.-- maybe sometimes even them.....

Thank you all again.
Riche
P.S. The little twit is still a problem-child-dog, but "WE" are gaining
on her.
