[Dailydrool] Toe bones

Bev,

I used to be able to cut my dog's toe nails. Somewhere along the line this changed. Bosley, even if muzzled, fights like a rabid badger and you have to literally sit on him (which is risking smashed basset) to do anything. Dobi used to be so super cooperative, but now he goes nuts if he even sees the clippers. I have no idea why, because we did the tag team toe clipping on him. Which is--my son feeds him rounds of string cheese and keeps his attention while I clip toes. He used to love it. He suddenly went ballistic.

The only guy who will let me clip his toes is Freddie. He was going to be euthed by the rescue because he was biting everyone. But he seems to love me. He is also my guy with black toes, so tough to not make him bleed, which I do sometimes, but he is forgiving. He, also, gets treats and is bribed to submit, but he does. And it is lovely, and bird's sing, and his toes are shorter and life is good.

The other two have to have my home visit vet come and clip their stupid toes, under protest. Luckily, he and his assistant are much stronger than I am, and that works out.

However invented that toes need to be clipped on bassets should be shot. If they are not already dead, which they probably are.
