I don't know of any way to prevent sebaceous cysts. We have treated
them somewhat successfully with hot compresses several times a day. We
use a washcloth and fairly hot water, pressed to the cyst for a few
minutes at a time. It draws the gunk out, so that it doesn't stay
there, or worse, go inward. Tina (ATB) actually had one that
eventually disappeared, but most cysts seem to recur, and even
eventually need to be removed by the vet if they cause problems.
Bassets are just lumpy and bumpy, I'm afraid.
