Absolutely, I agree with Dale that eye problems need an eye vet. We went 
through this with Dexter, when he had glaucoma. Naturally he always had 
a pressure spike on the weekend, when the eye vet was not in the office. 
I finally learned that going to the ER was pretty well useless.

If nothing else, going to an eye vet will give you a baseline, in case 
your basset is ever inclining towards glaucoma or another eye problem. 
The eye vet is more expensive, but worth it.
