Have you tried, and this might count as training..not sure,  to use double
sided tape along the seat area, or the area where he lays?  
We have used it before when we do not want our hounds somewhere.  No they
never got trained to not do it, but they never went up when they knew the
tape was there......it is pretty funny watching them run around trying to
get it off them.
