[Dailydrool] Food

Dale's comment is, as usual, wise:
<<I was told a while back by a large number of droolers that changing what
you feed your hounds makes NO sense if your hounds are thriving and your
vet approves. And I think that is THE best advice>>

I feel Adm. JED and Claire the Timid Honest Kitchen because (basically) I'm
lazy and feeding one kind of food is easier on me. Also, Lady Foxy--the
itchy one--will go after ANY FOOD. She is a true hound. "MY food is MY
food; YOUR food is MY food; ALL food is MY food because I LOVE FOOD." Even
when it makes her itch and dig. Oh well, like many (most?) humans, our
hounds are more than willing to do stuff that isn't in their best
interests... who really wants to be "good" all the time?

At any rate... what I appreciate so much about this list is that we share
what we know, our experience, in descriptive--rather than
prescriptive--email sharing. Truth be told, I could feed JED and Claire
(especially Claire) anything, and I think they would thrive. I think I am
acting in their best interests to feed Honest Kitchen (which is also easier
for me--and if I had more energy I would do combo raw and cook for them;
I've done that before for my dogs). I know everyone on this lists acts in
the best interests of their hound. As with the rest of life, there is no
"one size fits all". Or even most. I've had good luck with Honest Kitchen
in helping Foxy's skin condition, but I would still probably be feeding
Iams or comparable if Foxy had not come in my life. For me, the choice is a
balance of what I believe is healthy for my dogs and what I'm willing to do
(convenience).

The experience and information on this list regarding GOOPY EARS ("Gunky"
being the medical term) was invaluable for Adm. JED. I got excellent
information and was able to make what I felt was an informed choice for
JED's treatment. He is grateful. His ears are PERFECTION after over a year
with a raging psuedonomas infection, thanks to Blue Power earwash (the home
remedy) AND Cipro (which I was a reticent to give because I worry,
generally, about antibiotic overuse in humans and animals.)

I do believe if a hound (like Lady Foxy) has allergies, Honest Kitchen can
be part of the solution. It is not the only solution. But... as before,
Lady Foxy's allergies are not confined to food. As others have reported
regarding their itchy hounds, Foxy needs regular baths and still flares up.
It is very frustrating; especially for her! I am grateful we are in
California which is relatively dry (well--really dry this last year, scary
dry) and I'm not fighting the good fight with those in the rain/mold areas.

At any rate... Semper Fido and may every hound be as loved (and well fed!)
as the ones worshipped by the houndservants on this list.
