Dear Miss Gracie:

HERE we are under the assumption that we don't wait for Birthdays and Gotcha days. Here EVERYDAY should be celebrated when there are Bassets in the house. Your house should be filled with TREATS and Singing and Dancing and TREATS and Belly Rubs and Playing......oh and we need to add TREATS everyday!!! Everyday is a celebration when you have Bassets around. Your slave is in desparate need of retraining!!

Sincerely;
Sweet Mollie Mae and Barney

Bongo is our 12-13 year old Basset. Last year he had pancreatitis so he is on a strict diet. He has low thyroid and is taking medication for that, he also has arthritis and is taking Carprofen for that. This morning I awoke to that lovely smell of fresh poop in the house, got up and cleaned it up (this has happened before several months ago but this time it was not quite as firm as usual but not diarrhea). He ate breakfast at 6 am as usual but seemed a bit more clingy than usual all morning. Just as I was making my lunch he came over and here came his breakfast back up (this was 6 hours later) cleaned that up. Back to being clingy but at least he is resting comfortably. Thankfully today is my day off so I can keep an eye on him but I am worried about tomorrow while I am at work (thankfully a short shift). Any drool sent his way will be appreciated so that his stomach feels better.

Your Friend in Bassets,
Ursula

A few years ago I was fostering for N. Texas Basset Rescue. The young hound was actually more dead than alive when taken into rescue but with time, love and excellent vet care, we finally reached the milestone to deal with his heart worms. The hound, Waldo, had already survived starvation, kennel cough, pneumonia, worms and distemper, although we hadn't figured that one out yet.

When I picked Waldo up from the vet, he handed me a prescription for 5 mg. Valium and told me I would need to have it filled ASAP. I had never dealt with a post-heart worm treatment dog but had familiarized myself with what to expect. At no time in my internet reading had I seen the word Valium! The Vet explained the usual side effects of the HW treatment had not phased Waldo's usual exuberance for life and he had had to resort to Valium to temper his enthusiasm. He asked if I had a crate in my car and expecting to transport a calm, docile, not feeling very well hound, I had not bothered to put a crate in the back of my SUV. I live 3 miles from the office so we agreed Waldo was still feeling the effects of his latest dose and would be fine for the short ride home.

I had only driven a few blocks before Waldo popped up, tail beating the sides of the car and attempting to cross the back seats to be close to his foster mom. I immediately turned into a drive through pharmacy I was passing to get the Valium RX started. I did not have a relationship with this pharmacy so expected lots of questions. I handed the young man who was working the window the RX, which was made out to Waldo and my last name, along with my drivers license. He immediately asked for the patient's date of birth, which I couldn't remember what the rescue and vet decided on. About that time, Waldo made it into the back seat and proceeded to stick his head out the window at the same time the man realized the prescription was for an animal. Information was quickly exchanged and he told me he needed my signature, then laughed and wanted to know if he could get Waldo's signature. I told him I'd be back in 15 minutes. I took Waldo home, crated him and returned for the m
edication. The guy told me I had been his most fun customer he could remember and told me he hoped the medication helped as it appeared I was in for a long night.
Waldo had a good recovery but it did take every Valium pill.

Several weeks later Waldo developed seizures due to the distemper but went on to find a wonderful loving forever home looking for a special needs hound. As far as I know he is living the life of Riley enjoying every moment of his life.

Greetings to all,
I recently found a red ceramic "fire hydrant", about 3 feet high and I got it for Clifford to leave his P-Mail for the neighborhood hounds. I placed it next to the mailbox by the curb out front and placed a sign next to it that says, "Clifford's P-Mail".
He still doesn't get it, he can't imagine why any dog would want to pee OUTSIDE, when they could do it inside the house and not have to get cold, (we're talking 50 degrees here). If he's a diamond in the rough, it's gonna take a sand blaster to change his bad habits, I always forget how much work raising a puppy is, and how much older I am now, than when I tried this last time.
My new title is "Mop Bucket Queen", Clifford loves it when I have to clean up his liquid signatures, he grabs one of the mop strings and I end up dragging him along, through the pee and liquid bleach, ending up smelling worse than when I started.
Yesterday I actually saw him scrunch down to leave a deposit on the floor, then while humped over, he actually backed up a step to land it on the edge of the newspaper. I praised him over and over for being so thoughtful. I can only share these precious moments with the likes of fellow Droolers, no one with abundant intellectual capacity could appreciate our special sense of humor, bless you all.

Hi it's Gracie,

Snoopy had his gotcha day yesterday. ?He doesn't like to talk about it anymore, it was a long long time ago so he doesn't discuss the particulars, I didn't know him then, and nobody here will say ...... so I guess he just appeared one Jan 12th and has been Snoopy Rutz ever since is what I guess. ??He's a fine hound, my brother Snoopy. ?He's snuggly and he shares toys and wrestles real gentle and takes turns, he's a love bug is what he is, he's my big brother .... Snoopy.?

OK, maybe he might have showed up here a train wreck but you'd never even guess just how scared/mad/sad/bad he was unless I told so my lips are sealed. ?Now he's perfect. ?A little bit loud (ahrooooooooooo) but he's got a real nice ahrooo so what can you say?

We got braided raw hides while they watched the football game (go 9ers) and we got belly rubs and then we had special treats and afterward we all got played with and after that we all got walked and we all had more belly rubs and oh ..... lots of snuggles and of course more treats and we played some alligator mouth and some fetch and some tuggie and we were all on the calendar and Snoopy was blowing a rasberry in the picture and yeah .... it was a good gotcha day.

More later from Gracie (eh hem .... he says it why can't I say it if he says it he's my big brother right?)

Colt your roving weather and news hound woofing in from Farm & Weather Station Howling Hound. Ruger, the Momma and I survived the Polar Vortex! It was so cold here on the 6th that when we went outside to potty, I farted and snowflakes flew out of my butt! It was so cold here (-27 degrees with a howling wind) that our poor little paws tried to freeze to the ground while we tried to pee and momma had to come out and rescue us. Since it was to cold to be outside Ruger & I made the momma bake us cookies on the 6th & 7th to put in the freezer for summer. So currently it is finally back to normal temps for this area...THANK doG!!! But Mr. High and Mighty TV Weather person now saying that we might get visited by a baby polar vortex next week. I stomp my mighty paw and say "Mr. Baby Polar Vortex you are not welcome at our farm". Now for the big news. Grandpaw came over to our little farm last night and talked to momma about get a moo cow. Apparently momma's adopted brother (Grandpa's
co-worker that is momma age) has a young cow that is small and getting bullied by the other cows. So momma and Grandpaw are going to take him. Ruger and I have named him T-Bone! Now for your weather report: This morning upon first outs Ruger and I were met with a frosty and crunchy ground, & the view was froggy. Temps were a chilly 25 degrees. Currently the frog has lifted his big froggy butt off of our farm, it is clear and sunny and it has warmed up to 30 degrees.
In other news we bring you a special update on my fight against cancer. I am doing very well, thank you for all the well wishes and healing drool. I have another chemo on Thursday. So please keep the healing and special cancer fighting drool coming...it is magical stuff. I luvs all of you.
This just in: A special farm alert report: Grandpaw just called this morning to say that if brother Jeff could catch Mr. T-Bone (soon to be our farms first beef cow) that he would arrive this weekend. Mmmmm Ruger and I can hardly wait to taste....Iiiiii mean, meat Mr. T-Bone. Bother Jeff said that Mr. T-Bone is a small steer, and the other cows are bulling him and won't let him eat to fatten up. So momma and Grandpaw are going to help him to marble...I mean fatten up. Excuse me I need a towel...I drooling all over my iPawPad....Colt your roving weather and news hound woofing out from Weather Station and farm - Howling Hound.

Good morning all and healing drool been sent to all in need. This is Jasmin and Joshua chiming in. We are a bit annoyed with the slave because he is way behind in reading us our drools dating back to the 31/12/2013.On new year?s morning the slave opened our windows and curtains and we could not believe the sight before our eyes ,there were 5 horses out front eating our grass, which was fairly long not having been cut while the gardeners were away.

There were even more up the road eating grass there. The slave phoned the animal welfare who are quite clued up with what belongs to who as large 4 legged animals from horses to cows often wonder off the surrounding farms or small holdings. The slave described accurately what we saw and all the horses were soon safe in their respective homes.as the owners are phoned and they are soon collecting their live-stock . The slaves thought this quite a co incidence as this is The Year of the Horse in the Chinese Calendar. Last week the slave Johnathan dropped a full 2 litre Coke on his foot bruising it quite badly and then a few days later with the foot still been swollen the slave Johnathan dropped a fork on to his foot with the prongs imbedding itself into Johnathan?s foot skin . We all went quite queasy when we saw the blood and the fork standing erect in Johnathan?s already swollen foot. Fortunately we did not have to fore go any of our walks. This morning we were helping the s
lave Johnathan water the garden ,halfway through the slave Johnathan always sits down as the one flower be needs to be flooded with water ,so while he is doing this we sit on either side of him usually under the arms so we can cuddle my brother and I decided to play a game and knocked the hose out of Johnathans hand, the nozzle flew all over the place and Joshua and I scattered, before Johnathan could get hold of the hose once again the nozzle hit him in the face giving him a black eye. Last month when we went to the parlour the slaves were quite amazed when Joshua came home with antibiotics and other medicine as they discovered an Anal Gland infection, as all hound going to the parlour are looked over before been washed by the on duty vet. The infection is now clear and when we go next Tuesday the slaves are hoping nothing unto wards is detected in either of us.

This is Lilly, Justin and Jade chiming in from the Bridge, we all had a lovely new year?s day ATB as the human Grannies and Grand Pa?s spend the day spoiling us hounds and it was so nice to be with our granny Helen and grandfather George for the day. The 3 of us as well as Klara are helping Leyla and Piper to arrange a surprise dinner for their dad slave Andrew on Monday 27/1 and a picnic with lots of fun and games on the 31/1.

Jasmin and Joshua looking forward to an interesting year.

Lilly ,Justin and Jade ATB just looking in

Slaves William and Johnathan forever busy with one thing or another.

Toffee's follow up visit with Dr. Betsy was yesterday afternoon. She's gained 3 lbs. since her surgery to remove the melanoma inside her mouth on Dec. 27th.?I'll take the blame for? that as I've been feeding her extra treats since her melanoma diagnosis. She is a very easy keeper and it doesn't take much for her to gain weight. I'll be cutting back on the extra goodies. The melanoma has begun to invade her lymph nodes and she may have one developing in her lungs since she is coughing?a bit after she drinks water.?She feels fine otherwise and is her normal self. Happy and sweet as ever. The vet said she probably has 3 to 6 months with the signs she is showing us at this point.?Toffee will let me know when she needs to leave us. Because of her age and other factors, we are not going to?put her though?chemo or any more invasive surgery. Toffee will be 13 yrs. old mid-May.

Thank you all for your support and kindness. Most of my pack are in their senior years ( ages 7+ to 12+)?so we can expect that they will have issues related to aging. S adly, there will be more trips to the bridge in our future. My two "babies" are? turning 5 next month. I am hoping and praying for long healthy lives for all my hounds. It doesn't make it any easier when they have to go whether they are 5 or 15. There's too much love involved and a deeper connection to each and ?every one of them for that.

Hi it's Gracie,
?
I am jealous of Snoopy because he has a gotcha day AND a birthday.? Snoopy came to live with the clueless Rutz family on Jan 12, 2011.? Snoopy had a microchip and when my mommy went to update the information she on the internet she found his previous vet information.? So, she called up and got all of his medical history, including his birthday which is June 28, 2006.? So we have a big party on both days (Jan and June) with treats and fun and more treats and more fun and singing and dancing and so on.? Apparently Snoopy is a Mr Fancy pants.
?
Well, nobody knows when I was born so I only have a gotcha day.? And when LuLu was adopted they made her adoption date the same as her birthday (April 8) so she only has one party too.
?
My question is ....... should Snoopy get two parties?? Does he get to celebrate his gotcha day if he gets to celebrate his birthday?? Isn't his gotcha day his new birthday?
?
Not fair, not fair, not fair, not fair.
?
Love,
Gracie
