[Dailydrool] Impacted anal glands?

Back in the summer when Rolph's favourite vet, Kevin, was trying to understand his loss of appetite and lethargy, he did emptied Rolph's anal glands and found one side "quite full, but nothing unusual".
The past three nights Rolph has been chewing at his butt a bit. Tonight he was really on it, so I had a look. There were black deposits around the anus. Thinking it might be dried poop and itchy, I got a wet wipe to removed them.
First, I am not convinced it wasn't blood. Second, he was very tender, even though it didn't look inflamed, and third, I could feel a hard lump behind his anus, about the size of a small cob nut.
Is this likely an impacted anal gland? If not, any suggestions what it might be? Any suggestions what to do next? 
He is pooping normally.
Fond as Rolph is of Kevin, my resources are a tad stretched right now. But go we will if we must.
