Ok so recently Nigel started having seizures and we took him to a
specialty clinic because we wanted to know whether these were seizures and
treatable or a brain tumor and not. $3000 later we learned they are
seizures and treatable however, Nigel cannot take phenobarb since it turns
him into a raving maniac. So for about $200 a month for Keppra,1500 mgs
3xdaily, we have managed to keep the seizures pretty well under control.

Now here's the other thing about Nigel.
We don't go anywhere anymore.
Our only option with Nigel when we want to go overnight someplace is to
board him because he needs meds 3 times a day, he needs to catheterized at
least AT LEAST twice a day and he needs to be kept clean.
DH cannot catheterize Nigel so either I need to be here to do it or we have
to board him where they will. Oh yeah, and the special diet.

Now not every down in the rear dog is this complicated, but I would wager
it is close. The work involved is a lot. You have to have support and you
have to really want the dog around. We bred this litter that Nigel is from.
He was born in the same corner of the same room that he is in now. We know
that eventually something will happen that will force us to make that
unpleasant decision to put him down, but until then we just keep chgging
along.

Oh--- and lifting these guys with a towel or anything else-- it'llblow your
back to smithereens.

MomPerson to Nigel, his brother Llewis, their friend Conley and of course,
Doc.
