[Dailydrool] affectionate hounds

Hi all, Dale here,

My hounds are extremely affectionate.   When one goes someplace and then returns the others sniff the returning hound, rub snooters, and then often rub their head all the way down the body of the returning hound.  It never ceases to amaze me.  They are also affectionate with the hoomans.  As a pack and also as individuals.  When a hooman returns home the pack races to great them, there is leaping, there is barking, there is kissing, there is a general frenzy.  But there are other moments too, private moments .....

When one of my hounds catches me (or another hooman family member) alone, in a hallway, in a room, they will often seek out affection and it is very different when it is private.  They will draw me in, clearly wanting to embrace.  They will place the side of their face against me (or sometimes the top of their head, but always some part of their head) and they make these sounds I cannot describe ..... very quiet, very deep, almost guttural sounds which pull directly on my soul while they melt into me.  This kind of affection is VERY private and if another hound wanders into the room they will stop immediately (unless it is LuLu, she isn't going to stop and if you interrupt her snuggle you are not very wise).

I've had lots of dogs in my life, very affectionate dogs, but never before bassets did I have any dog who did anything like this.  Do you hounds do anything like this?

I remain ..... the clueless momPerson with Snoopy, LuLu and Gracie who are very affectionate

P.S.  Sorry about Llewis and the stitches ..... I will remove up to about 3 stitches to save myself a trip to the vet, more than that and we get in the car .... I'm a wimp.
