I don't want to scare you, but the eating behavior was what Tina was doing for the week or so before the vet discovered her spleen's hemangiosarcoma. She started not wanting her usual kibble, then wouldn't eat it with cheese, yogurt, or soup on top. Then she wouldn't eat canned food, cat food, canned salmon, or much of anything. It was as you described, she looked forward to eating, but when it arrived, it was just yuck. 

The vet found the mass by putting her hands on each side of Tina's waist, then pushed her fingertips toward each other. She said they should sort of meet in the middle, but there was "something in the way", the splenic tumor, confirmed with an xray. Tina's belly had gotten bigger, but it happened so gradually that we had chalked it up to her age. It was obvious how big her belly had gotten after the 1.5 lb tumor was removed !
