I work for an animal hospital, and I hate when my boss pushes the vaccines.
I DO NOT get the Lymes vaccine for my gang as it is only about 70%
effective.  I get the Distemper shot every 3 years with the Rabies shot for
my guys.  Instead of getting the Distemper shot, you can request a 'Titer.'
It's a blood test that tells you the levels in your dog's bloodstream to see
if there is a chance of Distemper.  This costs more than the vaccine though.
When my dogs reach 8 years old or so, I do not give them the Distemper any
more, but you can still get the Titers if you want.  This is just my two
cents and I hope it helps.
