Congratulations on your acquisition of a wonderful companion. My theory of
Bassets is, if it ain't broke don't fix it. Unless there is a compelling
reason for Zeke to sit I wouldn't try to teach him to do it.
I would, however, have his belly xrayed and palpated by a Vet to see
whether he has pain and if so why. I really would have it checked out.
It may be as simple as that the pain he experienced when bloating taught
him not to sit, and he might get over that, but I would want to be sure.
Just my opinion, it's what I would do if he were my dog. In the meantime,
best wishes and glad to welcome you to the weird world of the Basset
Hound....
