Valerie,

My baby girl Maggie d'Earest was a pansy. A wimp. A scaredy-cat. (Okay,
that was uncalled for, but you get the idea.) The smoke alarm chirps or in
fact any unexpected noise (vacuum cleaners included) put her in a panic
attack.

You might consider an AC model instead of battery operated, like this one:

But be sure you're getting one without the battery backup! It would do the
same low battery chirp signal. This may be hard to find in local stores,
and may require an electrician to install.

And if you live in an area with frequent or extended power outages, this
