[Dailydrool] Insurance

I did not have insurance with the original 3 bassets. I had VPI for Elwood
and Blitzen. Then I switched to Pets Best. VPI saved Elwood's life. we were
able to do whatever it took and not worry too much about the bills when he
ate carpet. Don't get me wrong, we were still out of pocket about $1600.
But, we could come up with the that. The whole bill was over $7000. I was
not happy with the way VPI covered chronic conditions and the way the rates
went up as the dog aged. My vet and I did some serious research and came up
with Pets Best. They were more expensive when Beauford and Bugsey were
puppies, but the rates haven't jacked up several hundred a year. They do an
excellent job of covering chronic conditions. I really get my moneys worth
from them. Well actually, it has really paid for the boys. It has not
really paid for Browyn, but even when I calculate her premium and what they
pay on the boys, I am ahead. So, I don't worry about it. They do an
excellent job of covering the boys allergy shots, Beauford's adequan and
Bugsey's atopica. I do not do the wellness plan. My vet just doesn't charge
enough to make it worthwhile.
