My husband and I are among the volunteers who take photos and video
of newly rescued Bassets for Basset Hound Rescue of Southern
California. Yesterday, we went to a vet used by BHRSC to photograph
two Bassets, Rufus and Maggie Mae, who had just arrived from
different shelters. Rufus is young, cute, and bouncy and sure to find
a home soon. The first sight of Maggie Mae made me cry. She looked
like a before photo of a dog that needs your help. She was estimated
to be 10 years old, skinny, vertebrae standing up and ribs showing;
she walked slowly with her head hung low. There was a crook in her
tail; and she had a wide gait, which I think meant that her back
hurt. Despite how skinny she was, her tummy looked rounded. She
didn't want the treats I had in my pocket, but she wagged her tail a
little when I petted her. We took a few pictures; but when she
vomited foam, I took her back inside the vet and told them what had
happened. Last night, Maggie Mae bloated. Fortunately she was at the
vet, and emergency surgery saved her life. Surgery revealed tumors on
her spleen, and her spleen was removed. Maggie Mae made it through
the night. You can see her picture on the Basset Hound Rescue of
Southern California Facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/BHRSC.
If you could spare a little to help Maggie Mae, BHRSC could really
use donations to help pay for this expensive surgery. Their website
is www.bassethoundrescue.org/

On a lighter note, when I came home I took off my dirty pants and put
them on top of my laundry hamper so I could treat the stained knees
before washing them. (We photograph on a grassy area used by lots of
dogs.) I forgot about the treats in my pocket. This morning, I found
the pants on the floor with a hole chewed in the pocket. Ellie got the treats.
