Deb:
You should definitely have the cysts removed because:
1. Your Vet thinks they should come off. He has a good reason and it is not
to make money off you.
2. A "harmless" cyst today may not be harmless today but in 6 months the
cyst may be something considerably less benign. Never trust a growth that
is not part of the original dog.
3. That cyst may well continue to grow .. and grow .... and grow.
I have seen them the size of softballs, no kidding. At this point they are
uncomfortable for the dog, they look horrible, they may impede movement,
they may rupture when they rub on the floor or furniture or even just daily
movement of the dog.
4. By the time they are huge the sugery becomes a big deal. Finding enough
skin to close nicely is also difficult.
5. If your dog is otherwise in good health, 8.5 yrs is NOT that old. If
your Vet wants it off then he feels good about your dog's ability to
survive the surgery. GO FOR IT!
