Hi, love this "names" thread :)

Long time no woof from this side of the Pond but I do read faithfully all the digests and have a thought for the departures, even if I don't write in. Sorry.

As for names -

my first dog, as a child , was part mine and part my grandad's. She was a black poodle and was my "sister" as we grew up together. Her name was Shani - grandad named her.

My first "real" dog was a setter X who landed in my lap at the age of 3 weeks, along with a tin of powdered milk !!! Don't ask! I named her Nouschka. NO idea why, just liked the name. Several years later, met some people I knew and they reminded me that I had known their parents' dog back in the 70's, a GS named ... yes, you got it - Nouschka ! Proof that I do store information in my brain .... somewhere <sigh>

Then came the bassets. Misty, her "real" name was Viness Vinell Zybline-Mist. I wanted to call her Misty before she was even born! I always thought that bassets were "misty-eyed"! The breeder informed me that that year (UK) began with a Z - NOT easy! eventually found Zybline and just added the Mist.

Penny came with the name Oncie - her real name was Once Upon a Time des Ombrieres d'Asques! Swallow that! I did NOT like Oncie and decided on Penny - it suited her really well and she loved it (so I believe)

Polly - came with BIG scaredy-cat problems so we decided to change her name to help her forget the bad times. Her real name was Rolls Royce des Ombrieres d'Asques and she was called Rolls. Definitely did not like that ! Polly just seemed to fit in with Penny, rolling easily off the tounge. More than once I did get muddled and came out with Ponny and Pelly !!!! They did not mind, though.

Venus came with her name. Don't particularly like it (nor does she) but she is now 11 so too late to change. I had several tries at other names but nothing inspired her. Venus is a very free spirit and just does what she wants. NO name would interest her - her only centre of interest is FOOD. Maybe I should call her Patée (food, in French) ??????

Hugs and lurps to you all and, a bit early, Happy Easter
