we too had issues with our gates and the bassets,We have a chain link fence and of course the neighbor kidslove the boys. They come over and pet from the other side of the fenceLuckily I have a barker that lets me know some one came in the gate.We have carabiners that we hook to the inside, so far, no kids have breached that, we also had to do that a few years ago, with our Molly Bob, she could flip the gates open Our dogs never wear collars unless we are going somewhere, My Molly Bob and another basset houndgot tangled with Bosco's lower jaw got caught in MB's collar and they twisted rolled in fear.I had to roll MB over 4 times to get the two separated, he broke a canine, MB developed swollen tissue in her throat and required surgery and meds ( this was a slip/choke) [ she was a good walker as long as she heard that chain I forgot to take it off, I planned to stay only a minute] You know that goes.then, three years later, she developed neck issues,it turned out that  there were bone chips, requiring a CT scan and major surgeryI hope that your baby learned her lesson, and thank goodness for spirit guides sending that lady to Facebook and a different route.
