I work at an animal hospital and have seen this before.  First of all the
dog should be neutered.  So many health issues can a happen when they get
old if not spayed or neutered.  I personally had two female dogs that HATED
each other and almost killed each other at one point.  I then kept them
separated.  I have a bi-level.  One stayed upstairs and the other downstairs
and went outside different times and it all worked out.  Good luck.
