tHe mechanics of our new anti-scratch efforts are working well. Mariah has on a t shirt. Over that she has a harness, and around her middle she has an inflatable collar like an inner tube. She looks like a little kid at the swimming pool. All she needs is zinc oxide on her nose. The inner tube around her middle blocks her back feet from gouging her neck and armpits, which she was doing before. It just clears the ground, so walking on level surfaces works. To sleep comfortably, her front needs to be up in a pillow. She looked much better last night and only had one itchy fit which required treatment at 3 Am.. So far so good, yes? No, this morning my husband got up before I did and decided to give Mariah "a break" from the contraption--took it off, let her out in the yard unsupervised, and closed the door. wHen she came in, she had managed to open and extend all three hot spots and was all bloody again. Back to go without $200. The good news is our vet managed to work her in this afternoon. I am optimistic since the inner tube is the most effective scratch barrier i have seen yet. Wearing it around her middle instead of her neck was a Petco clerk's suggestion. Val of Hawaii vlbzwick at yahoo.com
