The best money I ever spend is always on my dogs.
I many years ago, I had a crew of three bassets that all went to The Bridge, and the sadness was excruciating, so I had no hounds for around two years. I finally decided that life was better with a basset, even if I had to go threw it all grief again.
So I got a beautiful girl puppy, that was just loaded with more bassatude than all the others combined. I naturally put her on a dog food I had the other crew on, as they all had terrible food allergies, and as soon as I switched them to this brand of food, all was well, and they lived to be ripe old ages. But this didn't seem to help with her allergies. I tried food after food, but it was nothing but itch itch itch, scratch scratch scratch, bite bite bite.
I had a totally worthless allergy tests ran at the vet's, a bunch of stupid stuff came up, and not one food item on the list. Then Dawn of the West suggested a particular lab, and said the vet will try to talk you out of it, but don't let them.
Well, they did try, but they didn't succeed. The test was a few hundred bucks, but after two years of misery, I would have gladly spent anything. As it turned out, she was allergic to carrots for example, and I was giving her two or three carrot snacks a day, thinking I was giving a healthy snack, and was exasperating the entire situation. Then two years later, I thought she would like a puppy, so I bought a darling little red and white male, the last of his litter. Little did I know, she didn't have a maternal bone in her body, and was not happy about his arrival, but none the less, nine years later, he's still here.
Even though he showed no signs of food allergies, I had him tested too, to an eye opening surprise. Even though they were both bassets, they were allergic to different things.
Hope everyone is having a nice weekend, we are having a three digit heat snap here. Kindest regards, Vikki
