We made an interesting discovery about flexibility, balance, and routine yesterday. Both bassets, Mila and Mariah, are fairly balanced, flexible dogs. Mila is a tad food aggressive, and Mariah tends to be pushy for attention, but these are relatively minor quirks. Pit mix Ipo, on the other hand, comes from a severe abuse background with a little PTSD thrown in on top, and is generally a scared dog. Over the last year we have watched Ipo blossom into a friendly, affcinate dog, who is still frightened a bit of men or anyone reaching towards her, but she just runs and hides.

Our household runs on routines and rituals, though, and I had never realized before yesterday how much this was helping Ipo. Each of the dogs has her own feeding station. Mariah's bowl goes down first in the kitchen, then Ipo's bowl goes down in the dining room, and then Mila's bowl goes down in the living room. THe dogs wait at their respective feeding stations.

Last night we had company
