[Dailydrool] a sad tale

Today my Basset and I were doing a therapy visit in a senior’s residence with a group of 5 other dogs. It is a lovely senior’s home, perched on a hill in town. It is surrounded by old oak trees and grass. The old brick building was once an orphanage, now all fixed up to accommodate seniors.
One elderly lady (maybe 10 yrs older than I ) said she used to live in Winnipeg. (Think Montana or Minn.) She said there was a Basset next door that was really mean. I said that is very unusual. Then she went on to say the people who owned it were mean. They never took him in the house, he was out all winter (think Montana and Minn.weather) And in the summer they would throw him in the pool when they felt like it. I think about 90% of Bassets can’t swim.
It just made me sick to think what that poor dog had to endure. It probably was about 50 yrs ago, and folks tended not to complain like we are wont to do now.
So sad.
