[Dailydrool] This and that...

Hello fellow droolers!

I have been super bad about posting lately, but I do read the posts every day! They help break up all the tediousness of work!! I've been trying to write to people directly when they post a question or when they say something that I can relate to! I call that my paying it forward! The DD has helped me and my bassets tremendously!! I've been a member since we adopted Sadie Jean back in 2003!! Y'all have helped me overcome ear infections (if only I'd known about yogurt with live cultures with our first basset! Poor Tatum had to have her ears cleaned weekly or she got an infection!)! You helped me to know that Sadie Jean was bloating in the middle of the night when DH called me at work and said something was wrong with her! I went straight to the website and pulled up the article on bloat and drove home like a bat out of hell to take her to the emergency vets! Y'all helped me cope with her loss by sending me personal messages and cards (I kept them all in a binder there were so many!!)!! And you've helped me when I lost Casper, Teddi and then Madden!! But you also helped me keep my girls healthy and happy so that Teddi lived to be 14-1/2 and Madden lived to be 16 years and 10 days old!! I grieve with each of you at the loss of your hounds and enjoy all the tributes y'all write about them that make me cry and smile at the same time! I have made so many long-time great friends from participating in the card exchange (Shawn always tells everyone how the dogs get more cards then we do!) and with the Secret Pawtner exchange!! I may never meet any of you in person, but ya never know!! I met my great friend Carla when she was looking for a pen pal and then we got to meet in person when I was visiting Indiana, so it is possible! And I love reading our tidbits in the Bugler!

Speaking of the Bugler - have any of you read the January edition? I forget what page it's on, but on the bottom right side of one of the pages there is a box that says:
All things must end.
If not now, probably March.
This is not a drill.

Does that mean that Richie is hanging up her keyboard?!?! I sure hope not! While I don't follow who's hound is doing what in the ring, I do love all the articles, and again, LOTS of great information!! I hope the Bugler and the Daily Drool both continue on for a very long time!!

I do have some news... As I think I've written before, on December 17th I purchased a beautiful baby girl from Bonnies Basset Ranch in Arkansas! She has brought SO much joy and laughter to our home, she was worth every penny!! I'd been half-hearted looking for a new basset since we lost Teddi on March 31st, but there weren't many bassets coming into rescue that said yes, this is the one for our family! Then when we lost Madden on October 21st, I really started looking and then one day I saw a picture of these amazing buppies on Facebook! 5 weeks later Sundae arrived! However, before she came, I also saw that Miss Polly had a litter of puppies down at Daphneyland and I reminded Dawn how we'd been looking and I got pick of the litter... Miss Marshmallow!! Well, the time has finally arrived and we will be meeting the transport this Sunday to pick her up!! We are super excited, and yet nervous at the same time!! Sasha and Sundae have gotten along famously, and have brought SO much joy and laughter to our house that we SO needed!! We are just thrilled beyond belief at how well she and Sasha have gotten along, and we hope that Marshmallow doesn't become the 3rd wheel! Time will tell... (any suggestions?)

The only issue we've had with Sunday is potty training!! She knows how to use the doggy door already (she's SUPER smart!!), and she comes and goes as she pleases, but we can't get her to associate only going potty outside! She also refuses to use pee pads or newspaper for whatever reason! I've praised her up and down when she goes outside and told her she was a bad girl for going in the house. She's great all day long, but at night there's always a puddle or two as well as at least one pile - usually in the bar area or (my favorite) near the back door... Does anyone have any advice for how to get her to stop going in the house?!?!?

Anyways, now that I'll be the 3BassMa again (my license plate), I hope to contribute more to the DD to help keep it going! Y'all are right - the one on FB is nice because of the pictures, but it's just not the same as this group!!

Love you all!
~Gwen, Sasha, Sundae (and soon to arrive) Marshmallow~ (:>

Being happy doesn't mean everything's perfect. It means you've decided to see beyond the imperfections.
