[Dailydrool] itchies

Hello, it's Dale,
I've had lots of itchy bassets in my day.  Fosters and regulars.  Here are some of the things I have found:
1)  At times Snoopy gets bathed several times a week.  I only use soap once or at most twice a month, the rest is just a rinse with water but it REALLY helps, for at least a couple days2)  If they lay in fresh cut grass (and they do) I wipe them off when they come in3)  I do not feed any basset chicken after Debbie Winchester discovered Jake was allergic to it.  I took Snoopy off of it and his hairless belly grew hair and has had hair ever since.  His red arm pits cleared up as did the yeast in his pits ...... no chicken!4)  I limit what they eat to things I know all the ingredients of (raw fruit and veggies for treats, crock pot for food)5)  If I have an attack of itchies which spans dogs I     a)  wash everyone off (maybe just water)
     b)  wash all the rugs (I have a home shampooer)     c)  wash all bedding/blankets/dog bed covers
The above works for us at the Rutz abode, your milage may vary.  While I am here I'd like to remind everyone to check their basset emergency first aid kit to ensure you have fresh:
1)  Benedryl2)  Gas X3)  Symethicone liquid4)  buffered asparin5)  hydrogen peroxide (to clean wounds and to induce vomiting with a couple tablespoons)6)  Gause and Vet wrap (to bandage and to cover a place the dog won't stop chewing7)  Vet AND 24 hour emergency vet programmed into your phone with # and address8)  Polysporin9)  Mine also has tramadol and xanax which have been prescribed by my vet for my dog under certain circumstances.
I have used each and every one of the above and they can save a life (including yours by preventing heart attack).  I hope you never need any of them.  But I also hope you have all of them together, fresh, in a box you can easily and quickly find.
Best,Daledalerutz at sbcglobal.net if you want to chat (or send a picture of Paisley for me to put on dalerutz.com with Chomper)
