[Dailydrool] Lurkers, FB, degenerative myelopathy

Riche's post prompted me to write, I have always been a lurker but the DD has been a wealth of knowledge and intrigue and laughs for me for 10+ years(!).  I think I first ran across it looking for an itchy ear cure and discovered the blue powder ear cleaner.  Bev even called me once when I was in crisis with Rooney having seizures, and it was a great comfort just to talk to someone who 'got' it (and his seizures are well controlled now, knock on wood).  As my hounds enter their twilight years it gets harder to read the good-bye posts and to see them on FB, HOWEVER I do love seeing basset photos fill my FB feed, that's what the draw is for me.  If you can NOT get caught up in any of the sometimes controversial, sometimes harsh, and sometimes just plain stupid comments, then it's fine.  I don't know if it's possible, but if it were possible to share photos of our pups more easily through the Drool I think it may breathe a lot more life into it.  Just a thought.
Fitz was diagnosed with degenerative myelopathy in July.  The vet firmly felt end of life care should be implemented for both Rooney and Fitz.  It was quite a hard pill to swallow, as I knew they were old but they seemed to be trucking along fine in my eyes.  The outside opinion of the vet stung and I spent the following week grieving for what hadn't even happened yet.  Fitz's rear end is completely useless now and it has been hard, but he is still eating and drinking and wagging and enjoying love and barking at the neighbors...I suppose I'll know when the time is right but I feel like this is going to be a hard winter.  Does anyone out there have any experience with degenerative myelopathy?
