[Dailydrool] Obedience Training "star"

We decided to take Gallagher to Obedience Training. We probably should have started him younger (he'll be 2 in May), but better late than never. Our big issue is getting him to come when he's called. Walking calmly on a leash would also be wonderful. When I called to reserve the spot and told them I had a Basset Hound, the guy said it might take a bit longer for him to learn. How sad, but true is that?
Wednesday was our first class. There were 7 other dogs in the class: a standard poodle (# 1 in dog intelligence, supposedly); a golden retriever (#2), 2 boxers, a labrador (also top) and a Jack Russell. I saw the competition and thought - guess who'll be wearing the dunce cap! Gallagher is just a goof ball! Imagine my surprise when he was actually the best of the 7! I couldn't believe it. Of course we only learned "watch me" "sit" and "visit" (to socialize with other dogs). We have 5 more classes to go, but I'm optimistic.
MacKenzie's tummy issues appear to be resolved and she's no longer afraid to eat out of her bowl. She's going to Obedience classes after Gallagher - one at a time is just fine!

Julie Canny - slave to MacKenzie (Princess wanna be), Gallagher (the goof) and the Senior Poppy, Queen of all she sees.
