I've done wildlife rescue for over 20 years, and raised many baby ducks. You always
need to raise them with other ducks if they have any chance of ever being released
into the wild.
Unfortunately baby ducks imprint on whoever they see first and most often, so
this duck will always think you are it's flock. More importantly it will also think
dogs are safe to approach. For this reason setting it free isn't a good idea - it could approach
another dog and be killed. This is why mothers always used to tell their kids not to touch wild babies
- it's not true that the mom will never feed them again - they just didn't want their kids bringing home babies.
Unless you can return this duckling to it's mom, it won't be safe anywhere but with you
or a wildlife rescue.
But aren't they just the cutest?!!
