[Dailydrool] dog sling for a male dog

candyDepaul at aol.com candyDepaul at aol.com
Mon Jan 7 06:35:25 PST 2013

Our basset hound Tug Boat had a back operation last week for a ruptured
disc. We have been using a sling to bring him out for potty calls. We are
not real happy with the sling. Does anyone have a certain brand or style
they have used and are happy with? Has anyone had a pattern and made one?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to e-mail me. Thank you.

Morse is really suffering at the moment with itches on his leg folds; very
pink and lots of itchy spots starting. I have tried Malaseb, aloe vera,
Gold Bond, Tetmosol soap, Fuciderm and Fucidin, all with varying results -
can anyone suggest what are the best treatments to really help?

I love him, but today he topped everything. We frequently take the dogs to
our special "dog park". It's actually a "ghost" development - streets,
utilities - no houses. The local sheriff's department actually encourages
dog walkers as it keeps hunters and people that dump things away. The
dogs
often meet several friends and enjoy the running. Anyway, this morning
Guinness and Gallagher were into something. This usually means trash. I
went over to investigate and Guinness started rolling around and around.
Somebody left a VERY dirty diaper and after a night of rain..... EWWWWW.
I put my hand in a doggy poop bag (using it as a glove) and stuffed the
thing in a high pipe (marking pipe) so that other dogs didn't do the same
thing. Riding in the car was beyond gross. I got home, put on my old
bathing suit and took him in the shower again. I would like to smack the
parents that left the diaper.

? Georgia thanks for the info.?My boyfriend?thought about putting sticks
on the knees but?I did not know if it would work or not. I am sure he will
get right on it. I just feel so bad but he is not in pain and gets up and
keeps on going. The vet says he is the happiest dog he has ever met and just
loves him. He now has a partial torn ACL and the vet hates to operate on
him because he has been thru so much in his short life. So we are?keeping an
eye on it.?
?
? Pam that was alot of good info on blind dogs. I knew some of it but not
all of it.?I did know a guy who had a blind basset and a inground pool. She
would run around that pool like crazy doing the Indy 500. Thank goodness
she never fell in.?I would have been a nervous wreck and never let that
happen. I have had alot of 1 eyed babies, can't resist them.
?
Thanks,

Dadslave and I had the opportunity to meet fellow droolers on New Years Day
and share a glass of eggnog.

Sally and Bert Russel invited us to meet their bassets, Pixel and Browser.
They are beautiful, long-haired red and whites with sweet dispositions.

We had planned to bring Tilly, our red and white, and meet at the park
before Pixel got sick and lost most of her vision. Instead, we went to
their condo in Indialantic, FL. without Tilly, or the other 2 dogs (Phoebe
and Harvey). Pixel is 12 and Browser is 9. Ours are young and play
rather
rough!!

Browser is blind in both eyes from a congenital problem since age 6 but
seems happy and able to enjoy life. He greeted us downstairs at the
elevator like we were old friends.

Pixel was shy at first, but came over to both of us and let us love her and
pet her.

Sally and Bert were wonderful and we thoroughly enjoyed every minute of
our
visit.

We are looking forward to their return in February. Droolers are the
BEST!!
Sue

Hi it's dale

Snoopy thinks he is fine. He is back to ahroooing at the neighbor dogs
and wants to go to class tonight

Soppy is NOT fine! Snoopy was firing blood in projectile fashion from
his rectum less than 24 hours ago. Snoopy has discovered the power of the
drool and we believe that saved his life but he

1). Is not fine
2). Cannot have any apple
3). Might be contagious
4). Cannot have a bite of my sandwich
5). Was caught kissing Gracie (definitely not normal)
6). Cannot have kibble pumpkin or green beans
7). Has yet to produce a stool (normal or otherwise) since the whole
projectile blood thing

Snoopy posted a picture from a couple of days back of me in Carmel on
Facebook and is trying to insist all is normal around here. He will be the
death of me yet. I love him to pieces

More later from the frazzled and utterly clueless momPerson with
Snoopy (I am just fine)

Becky, has your vet prescribed antibiotics for the bacterial infection?
Mine prescribes Temaril-P for itching/hot spot type issues. It is a
combination if antihistamine and a small dose of prednisone : to address the
itching and calm the existing inflammation to help break the cycle.

Itchy hot spots are no fun!

my Hector ATb was allergic to fabric softener, so I was told the old
trick of using white vinegar (1/2 cup) in the rinse cycle instead. It
works well as a de-static-er, and also does a great job of deodorizing
dog laundry. bonus: it' super cheap!

My cats have loved chasing yarn, but the one who got into the most trouble
with it was our Belvedere. I could never keep yarn around, except in an
enclosed box, or he would trail it through the rooms and drop it wherever
there was the most fur.

Are you sure it's the cats?

I'd like to ask for some drool for our current foster, Horton, who's been
with us since a week before Christmas.

Not long after we got him, he started having bloody diarrhea. So I trotted
him over to the vet. We started with Flagyl and lomotil, then added
Baytril, when those did not work. Both fecal tests have come out negative, so
today the vet took X-rays today, which also showed nothing.
Now poor little Horton needs to go to an internist, so we are arranging
that. We're thinking at this point that it might be colitis, and it looks as
if we'll need to do an ultrasound.

Horton is so nervous that taking him anywhere with strangers is a
challenge. Because he had a car accident, he's fearful around traffic; and new
people, especially tall ones, scare him silly. We also have an appointment on
Tuesday with the orthopedist--another challenge for this nervous boy.

Can the Drool hounds please sling drool in his direction, so he'll soon
feel good? We can't work on his fears until his broken leg--a result of the
accident--is healed up. Crate rest for the leg isn't really conducive to
meeting new folks and getting over fears. But this little fellow is completely
at ease with me, so I know he will love someone who will defend him from
the nasty cars and trucks and help him know that people are not all bad. Of
course, he's not going to a new home until he's completely healed up.

You could say, Dale, that I can deeply feel for Snoopy. After all, we've
been dealing with the same thing for a couple of weeks now. I can only hope
the end is in sight for both hounds.

orphan pet" for everyone who views it. So even if there are no bassets in
it, we'll hope some are being helped.

Glad to hear Snoopy is feeling better, my guess is he ate something you
didn't see that really upset his system, and once it settles down he will
be
fine. Until next time, of course. Our Holly loves to eat nuts out of
yards
on our walks, even though one type makes her extremely sick. And of course
she tries to snag all kinds of poop, some of which makes her sick.
(Really??!!). I don't know that this is true, but I wonder if your Snoopy
is like my Holly and has a very easily upset digestive system.

Sister Holly da Dolly is my girl with the touchy tummy. The first year
she
was with us, she would get an upset stomach (and sometimes bloody diarrhea)
at least 2 or 3 days every week. I'm not kidding, at least 2 or 3 days a
week. I'd give her Pepto-Bismol at the first sign of intestinal screeching
and refusing food, and she would be back to normal the next day, and then
it
would start all over again. The bloody diarrhea scared me to death, and I
felt like eventually she would develop pancreatitis, which we all know can
be deadly. Once I started cooking a special rice porridge (with meat and
veggies) and adding it to their kibble, Holly stopped getting sick. She
can
eat people food, all kinds of treats, whatever, and she is fine as long as
she doesn't score something nasty on a walk.

Oh, I forgot to mention this - remember Holly hurt her back a couple of
weeks ago? The Vet took an x-ray, and she asked me if I knew that Holly
eats rocks. HUH??!!! Yep, the x-ray showed a bunch of little rocks in
her
stomach. Vet said not dangerous and nothing to worry about. I was
totally,
completely flabbergasted. Could not believe it. Miss Picky eats rocks.
You just never know.
